Clip Studio Paint Summer Update (Version 1.12.0) Coming Soon!

May 19, 2022

The Summer Update of Clip Studio Paint EX/PRO/DEBUT (Version 1.12.0) for Windows, macOS, iPad, iPhone, Galaxy, Android, and Chromebook is slated for release on May 26. The Clip Studio launcher will also be updated to Version 1.12.0.

Note: Versions other than the Windows/macOS versions will be available once they have passed the review for their respective app stores.

What’s Coming to Clip Studio Paint?

Version 1.12.0 includes the following updates.

Limited edition 10th anniversary app icon and splash screen

Clip Studio Paint celebrates its 10th anniversary this year on May 31. To show our appreciation to all the creators who have used and supported Clip Studio Paint for all these years, we decided to put on a few anniversary parties - and guess what? You’re all invited! As part of the celebrations, Clip Studio Paint will be getting a special edition version.

*If you have updated Windows from Ver. 1.11.14 or later, and the limited edition app icon does not appear, please try restarting your PC.

Companion mode support for all platforms

Companion mode, which uses your smartphone as a handheld shortcut remote, is now available on all platforms.

WIP webtoon preview on smartphones

You can now preview in-progress webtoons on smartphones. Edit your work in Clip Studio Paint while checking its appearance with a smartphone. This function can be used when a smartphone is connected in Companion mode.

Added Color Mixing Palette

Added Color Mixing to Companion Mode and the Color Mixing palette to all platforms. Intuitively create and select colors while experimenting with color mixing as if using a digital painting palette.

Exporting text layers in Adobe Photoshop PSD/PSB formats (EX/PRO)

Text layers created in Clip Studio paint can be exported to text layers in Photoshop PSD and PSB formats. Text layer export settings can be configured in the Export Settings dialog from File menu> Save Duplicate and Export multiple pages > Batch export.

Improvements to shadows cast by 3D materials

Added Shadows follow light source to the Rendering settings dialog when selecting a 3D layer. Shadows cast on the surface of a 3D material will correspond to the direction of the light source.

Mode Selector for Companion mode

Added a mode selector to Companion mode. Assigning modifier keys available for the currently selected tools, such as Shift, Ctrl, and Alt, allows you to perform their operations easily and quickly. This method is easier than using the edge keyboard to switch between assigned operations.

Other Improvements and Changes

We have also made some other improvements, specification changes, and bug fixes based on feedback from Clip Studio Paint users.

  • We have made speed improvements to the Liquify tool. The display may look coarse while dragging but will improve after the effect is applied. Note that the liquify effect may be slightly different from its equivalent in other apps.
  • The default location of the Liquify Sub tool has been changed from the Color Mixing tool Sub tool palette to the Liquify tool on the Tool palette. If updating to Ver. 1.12.0 from Ver. 1.11.6 or later, the location of the Liquify Sub tool will not change.
  • Improvements to processing speed when saving a large canvas to the Clip Studio Format (extension: .clip) have been made.
  • Added Confirm transformations with double-click or double-tap to Command in the Preferences dialog. Toggling on and off sets whether or not a double-click or double-tap is used to confirm a transformation performed from the items under Edit menu > Transform.
  • Mac/iPad: Supports drag & drop of files using universal controls, allowing the exchange of files between a Mac and an iPad.
  • When Material is selected from Sub Tool Detail palette > Brush shape > Brush tip, tapping or hovering the cursor over the brush tip shape list will display the name of the material used for the brush tip shape.
  • Improvements to PNG export speed have been made. You can set the compression level for exporting PNG files from the File section of the Preferences dialog.
  • Supports import and export of PNG format files with embedded ICC profiles. EX/PRO
  • Windows / macOS / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook: Activate your license by entering your activation code from Review/Change License.
  • The file format of the 3D primitive map exported from the Tool Property palette of 3D primitive will be saved as Clip Studio Format (extension: .clip). The texture and crease pattern will export in separate layers. If Color is set, it will be applied to the paper layer.
  • Added Fill outside the webtoon view area to View menu > On-screen area settings (webtoon). When turned on, the outside of the display frame for Webtoons is filled in and hidden.
