CLIP STUDIO PAINT release note

CLIP STUDIO PAINT Version 1.6.2 release note (2016/12/14)

Main features of CLIP STUDIO PAINT Ver.1.6.2

*The features with marked with EX or PRO can be used only in [EX] or [PRO].

We have launched CLIP STUDIO ASSETS, a new service where you can download over 8,000 free materials

This handy feature allows you to search for and download free materials that will help you with your work, including tones, brushes and 3D data.

Blending modes have been added.

Layer blending modes have been added for a wider range of expression styles.

New blending modes :
Vivid light, Linear light, Pin light, Hard mix, Exclusion, Darker color, Lighter color, Division, Hue, Saturation, Color, Brightness

Normal

The set layer is simply placed on top of the layer below.

Pin light

Blends by replacing colors in the image depending on the colors in the set layer.

Exclusion

The less bright color values are subtracted from the brighter color values and the difference is displayed, but the colors are blended with a lower contrast.

Hue

The hue of the set layer is applied while maintaining the brightness and saturation of the layer below.

Division

The RGB values of the layer below are divided by the brightness of the set layer.

Brightness

The brightness of the set layer is applied while maintaining the hue and saturation values of the layer below.

The opacity of the brush can be adjusted according to pen pressure

An effect source can now be set for the brush opacity. You can create a brush where the pen pressure is set as the effect source, so that the opacity changes with the pen pressure.

Compatible with retina display (MacOS Version)

Applications and canvases can be displayed in the resolution of the retina display.
Canvases are displayed at a higher resolution in the retina display than in previous versions. As a result, processes such as transformation operations and 3D layer editing processes may take longer than usual.

The file format of 3D data has been changed and the operability of 3D layers has been improved

The file formats of 3D characters, 3D backgrounds, etc. that can be loaded in CLIP STUDIO PAINT have been changed. This is accompanied by an improvement of the functions and operability of 3D layers, including fast view for 3D editing, rendering settings and improvements to the manipulators. 3D materials in software from Ver. 1.6.0 onward are in the new data format.

Fast view

Improvements to Manipulators

*3D materials that you have added or created by yourself prior to this update can still be used, but they will be handled on a different layer from 3D data in the new format, and the two types cannot be linked. General 3D data such as lwo and obj files will be loaded in the same layer as the new format and can be operated in the same way as the new format.

File size reduced EXPRO

Saving of monochrome layers has been optimized. The file size of monochrome works is now 10-20% smaller than standard works.

*We plan on making CLIP files even more user-friendly in future, including further lightening of CLIP files containing color layers and removal of caching for high speed displays to optimize commissioning.

A preview display can now be selected when creating figures

Actual settings such as line color and width can now be viewed in the preview while drawing figures, etc.

[Selection] has been added to the [Output range] settings EX

[Selection] has been added to [Output range] in the dialog displayed when the [File] menu -> [Export (Single Layer)] is selected. A rectangular image with the width and height of the selected area can be exported.

Operation of the timeline is now easier

Various functions have been added for easier operation of the animation function timeline: the view can be split into two levels from the timeline palette menu, a light table can be operated and there are functions such as cel specification, Play/Stop and playback settings.

Animations can now be registered as materials EXPRO

Animation has been added to the material types. Clips selected in the [Timeline] palette can be registered as animation materials.

MP4 files can now be exported

Movie files in MP4 format (extension: mp4) can now be exported from [Export animation].

The initial values of several settings have been changed

Several initial settings have been changed, such as the software interface color and undo count.

  1. [Automatically switch IME when typing text into panel] has been changed to On in [Interface] -> [IME control].
  2. [Theme of color combination] has been changed to [Dark color] in [Interface] -> [Color].
