CLIP STUDIO release note

CLIP STUDIO PAINT Ver.1.6.8 (Windows) release note (10/12/2017)

The following problems have been fixed for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update in Ver. 1.6.8.

  1. Operating with a modifier key + a stylus pen causes coordinate disturbances, when selecting the [TabletPC] option in the [File] menu → [Preferences] → [Tablet] → [Using tablet service].
  2. When using a tablet PC, and selecting [WinTab] within the [File] menu → [Preferences] → [Tablet] → [Using tablet service] and at the same time, when the [Switch use of touch operation with finger] is enabled, the stylus pen is recognized the same as a finger.
  3. The [Object] tool can not be operated with the stylus pen for 3D layers.

Main updates in Version 1.6.7

*The features with marked with EX or PRO can be used only in [EX] or [PRO].

It is now possible to upload materials to ASSETS.

You can now share your original materials with the world.

Workspaces can be registered as material now. EXPRO

Palette Layout, Shortcut Settings, Command Bar Settings, and Unit Settings of preferences can be registered to Workspace materials.
Registered materials can not only be added to the [Material] palette, but also be distributed through CLIP STUDIO ASSETS.
Workspace materials registered in CLIP STUDIO ASSETS can be imported and applied to your preferences. Palette layouts can be adapted without having to change shortcut settings because settings to reflect are decided upon initial import. It is now easier to customize an original workspace.

Now Supports Surface Pen.

CLIP STUDIO PAINT can be used on Surface Studio and Surface Pro. It also supports the 4096 pressure point pen pressure sensitivity and the directional tilt detection feature of the new Surface Pen* and the devices it is compatible with.

Compatible with operations using Surface Dial.

With the Surface Dial it’s possible to magnify and rotate canvases, undo, adjust brush size, move along timelines, and rotate the parallel line ruler.

[All sides view] palette EX

With the [All sides view] palette, it is now possible to verify 3D layers from 4 different direction. Aside from confirming the placement of 3D materials, the position of the focal point and camera can also be adjusted.

Color setting method from dialog and palette has been modified.

Conventionally, where the default dialog for the OS being used was displayed, now a unique [Color settings] dialog will be displayed instead.
In the [Color settings] dialog, there are various options for selecting colors such as color wheel and color sets.

New parameters have been added to the camera feature. EXPRO

[Link camera advancing/retreating], [Camera position] and [Focal point Position] options were added. The display settings for the camera position and perspective can be edited in more detail.

Animated sticker (APNG) files can now be exported.

You can now export in APNG format using [Export animation]. Products such as Line Animated Stickers can be created.
*The animation will play if viewed on an APNG supporting browser such as “Firefox”.

Page file names can now be revised automatically. EX

[Sort page file names] has be added to the [Story] menu. For pages managed in the [Page Management] window, file names can be revised to the same number as the [Page Management] window’s page number.
*File name cannot be revised when Group work function is enabled.

[Tone effect in case of scaling down] has been added to preferences. EXPRO

You can select whether to display a scaled down pattern of tone, or gray scale when lowering magnification factor of the canvas.

Now officially supports macOS Sierra.

[mac] Modification of OS and application has been conducted to resolve several malfunctions confirmed in macOS Sierra. Check the following page for more details.

OpenToonz Scene file has been added to the Export animation feature. EX

Cels and Timelines created in CLIP STUDIO PAINT can be exported as an OpenToonz Scene File.
*OpenToonz Scene File export feature is available on macOS and Windows 64bit.

Half color has been added to the display methods of the light table.

[Color], [Half color], [Monochrome] can be selected from when layers are registered to [Animation cels] palette. When Half color is selected, it is possible to conduct same display as Stylos’s halftone.
These display methods are also available with Onion skin.

[Light table] category has been added to [Preferences].

Initial settings when light table layers are registered to [Animation cels] palette.

Layer thumbnail is now displayed in timeline palette. EX

Since a layer thumbnail is now displayed in timeline palette of animation window, it is now easier to distinguish timeline information and display switching cels. View settings can be changed in palette menu.

Main improvements in Version 1.6.7

  1. Now Supports German Language.
  2. [mac] [Raw Input] has been added to [Preferences]dialog -> [Precision] of [Tablet].
  3. By holding down the [Shift] key and dragging a handle, it is now possible to move along a frame for the operations listed below.
    - [Edit] Menu -> [Transform] -> [Free Transform]
    - When free transforming an image material layer using the [Object] sub tool
    - When free transforming a vector layer using the [Object] sub tool
    - When free transforming a balloon layer using the [Object] sub tool
    - When free transforming a ruler using the [Object] sub tool
  4. By holding the [Shift] key and dragging the center point, it is now possible to move by 45 degree increments for the operations listed below.
    - When [Edit] Menu -> [Transform] commands are executed
    - When selecting an image material layer using the [Object] sub tool
  5. When executing [Edit] menu -> [Transform] -> [Mesh Transformation], it is now possible to move in 45 degree increments by holding down the [Shift] key and dragging a handle.
  6. From the [Tab-Mate Controller Settings] dialog, it is now possible to adjust the [Brush Size], [Timeline], and [Parallel line ruler] with the control stick of the Tab-Mate controller.
  7. Certain operations which utilize brush type tools such as [Colored pencil] have been accelerated.
  8. [Win] Now available in New Surface Pro and Surface Studio, released on June 15th (Thursday). Furthermore, supports the 4096 pressure point pen pressure sensitivity and the directional tilt detection feature of the new Surface Pen and the devices it is compatible with.

  10. [Win] The tilt value of a stylus can be acquired on [Tablet PC] supporting computers, when [Tablet PC] is selected from the [Preferences] dialog, [Tablet] -> [Using tablet service]. Also, it is now possible to process pen pressure posterization using the computer’s maximum resolution.
  11. It is now possible to select from [Color], [Half color] and [Monochrome] for the display method of the light table layer in the [Animation cels] palette.
  12. [How to show] has been added to the [Animation] menu -> [Show animation cels] -> [Onion skin settings]. It is possible to select from [Color], [Half color], and [Monochrome] for the display method of an onion skin.
  13. The color setting method from the dialog and palette has been modified [EX/PRO/DEBUT]. Conventionally, where the default dialog for the OS being used was displayed, now a unique [Color settings] dialog will be displayed instead.
  14. The operations of the [Color Wheel] palette have been accelerated.
  15. The name of the color and the RGB value (HSV value) are now displayed when the mouse cursor is on a color tile in [Color Set] palette. However, it will not be displayed in Mac OS X 10.9.
  16. The [Light table] category has been added to [Preferences]. It is now possible to set the default value for the light table layer.
  17. The scroll method for palettes have been improved. For the scrollable areas of the palettes that are scrollable such as [Layer] palette and [Timeline] palette, it is now possible to scroll by pressing the [Space] key and dragging.
  18. The methods to select several 3D materials have been improved for selecting a 3D layer with the [Object] tool. Multiple selections can been enabled from [Tool Property]’s [Object List] while pressing the [Shift] key and clicking on the 3D materials.
  19. It is now possible to switch between show and hide even when quickly clicking on the [Show/Hide] icon from the [Layer] palette and the [Timeline] palette.
  20. The[Layer] palette now scrolls automatically to show the editable object layer when transitioning between canvas.
  21. The following settings will be adapted to the [Timeline] palette thumbnail list.
    - The palette color set with the [Layer] palette
    - [Layer] Menu -> [Layer Settings] -> [Display palette colors on canvas]
  22. The settings in the following path can be saved: [View] menu -> [Color profile] -> [Preview]. Canvases that have been set with [Preview] will be re-opened with the [Preview] settings applied.
  23. Use of memory after application launch has been reduced.
  24. [Mac] Movie exporting speed has improved when using the following path: [File] menu -> [Export animation] -> [Movie].
  25. [Animated sticker (APNG)] has been added to [File] menu -> [Export animation].
  26. [Output as [background]] has been added to the dialog when selecting [.psd (Photoshop Document)] and [.psb(Photoshop Big document)] from [File] menu -> [Export (Single Layer)]. You can save by combining with a Photoshop background layer.
  27. [Loop count] has been added to [File] menu -> [Export animation] -> [Animated GIF]. You can set the loop count of an animation.
  28. [Frame rate] has been added to [Create moving illustration] in the [New] dialog. You can set the number of cels to display per second.
  29. Cel numbers are now displayed in track name of animation folder within [Timeline] palette.
  30. A layer thumbnail is now displayed in the [Timeline] palette. The display method for thumbnails can be set by using [Thumbnail size] and [Thumbnail display settings] in [Show Menu].
  31. Pertaining to 3D materials that are selected with the [Object] sub tool, a checkbox for switching between showing and hiding outlines has been added to [Outline width] of [Tool Property]. However, 3D layers (compatible with version 1.5) cannot be displayed.
  32. Pertaining to 3D materials that are selected with the [Object] sub tool, [Offset amount] has been added to the dialog that is displayed when [Rendering settings] of [Tool Property] is clicked. Outlines can be displayed as how they were in Ver.1.5.4. and earlier versions.
  33. Multiple 3D materials can be selected simultaneously. It is now possible to select multiple parts simultaneously for 3D object materials with multiple parts or LWS files with associated elements.
  34. [Cut], [Copy and paste], [Delete] can now be collectively done when selecting several 3D materials.
  35. Light source settings are now automatically enabled, when importing 3D materials. However, light source settings are disabled when importing 3D character materials.
  36. 3D drawing figures can now be controlled with animation controller.
  37. [Export] and [Print] have been added to the [Initial boot] dialog.
  38. [Cut and paste] and [Copy and paste] have been added to the selection launcher.

PRO/EX

  1. It is now possible to register workspaces as a material. It is now possible to publish a workspace as a material in CLIP STUDIO ASSETS as well as import published workspace materials.
  2. [Workspace import settings: have been added to [Window] menu -> [Workspace]. At the time of importing, it is possible to edit the settings of workspaces from the menu.
  3. Name of [Window] menu -> [Workspace] -> [Reset Workspace] has been changed to [Reload Workspace]. It is possible to select the desired settings to reset when reverting a workspace.
  4. [Camera position], [Focal point Position], and [Link camera advancing/retreating] have been added to the [Tool Property] of the [Object] tool when selecting a 3D layer. The display settings for the camera position and perspective can be edited in more detail.
  5. [3D] has been added to [Layer] menu -> [New layer]. It is now possible to create a new empty 3D layer.
  6. The probability that the shape after erasing the line becomes a sharp corner has increased when [Eraser] tool’s [Tool Property] [Vector eraser] is set to [Erase up to intersection].
  7. [Tone effect in case of scaling down] has been added to [Preferences] dialog -> [Layer/Frame]. You can select whether to display a scaled down pattern of tone, or gray scale when lowering magnification factor of the canvas.
  8. Operation categories such as rotation and flip had been added to the [Sub View] palette. You are able to rotate or flip images registered to the [Sub View] palette.
  9. [One time only] and [One random round] have been added to [Repeat method] which is found in [Tool Property] of drawing tools. It is now possible to set the [Brush tip shape] so that the drawing will be disabled upon completing a sequence until a new stroke is created.
  10. The number of menu commands that can be configured at the[Selection Launcher Settings] dialog have increased. Also, it is now possible to add auto actions to the selection launcher.
  11. [Add control point and correct] and [Smoothening range] have been added to [Tool Property] of the [Correct line width] tool. By adding control points, line width can be changed smoothly. The range of line width smoothening can also be edited in [Smoothening range].
  12. [Move Auto Action to a different set] and [Copy Auto Action to a different set] have been added to the [Auto Action] palette menu. You can move or copy selected auto action to other auto action sets.
  13. Set values in the following commands will be maintained upon sequent launch.
    - [File] menu -> [Export (Single Layer)]
    - [File] Menu -> [Save Duplicate] -> [.psd (Photoshop Document)]
    - [File] Menu -> [Save Duplicate] -> [.psb (Photoshop Big Document)]

EX

  1. [File]menu -> [Export multiple pages] -> [3D Preview for Binding] has been renewed.
    - Time required to display [3D Preview for Binding] dialog has been reduced.
    - Magnification factor is now not reverted when changing between saddle stitch and side stitch in [3D Preview for Binding] dialog.
    - Menu is removed and button operation is installed to [3D Preview for Binding] dialog.
  2. [File] menu->[Export multiple pages] -> when proceeding to [Export fanzine printing data], print data can be exported without having to display [3D Preview for Binding].
  3. [All sides view] palette has been added [EX/PRO/DEBUT]. It is now possible to confirm 3D materials from 4 different directions when a 3D layer is selected. It is now possible to confirm the placement of a 3D material as well as adjust the position of the camera and focal point.
  4. It is now possible to scroll when the binding list is displayed by holding the [Space] key and dragging. It is also possible to scroll by sliding left and right on a trackpad.
  5. [OpenToonz Scene File] has been added to [File] menu -> [Export animation]. Cels and Timelines created in CLIP STUDIO PAINT can be exported as a OpenToonz Scene File.
  6. [Align crop mark] has been added to the [New] dialog. Spread page crop mark can be edited when creating new multipage works.
  7. [Sort page file names] has been added to [Story] menu. For pages managed in the [Page Management] window, file names can be revised to the same number as the [Page Management] window’s page number.
  8. [Adjust precision to the scene dimension] has been added to [LT conversion of layer] dialog when selecting a 3D layer. The accuracy of outline detection can be automatically adjusted depending on the size of the 3D material.
  9. The value set through [File] menu -> [Export multiple pages] -> [Batch export] will be maintained upon sequent launch.

CLIP STUDIO Version 1.6.7 release note (9/7/2017)

Main updates in Version 1.6.7

  1. The launch screen has been change from the ASSETS page to an information page.
  2. It is now possible to access the CLIP STUDIO ASK service from the [ASK] icon, located in menu on the left.
  3. It is now possible to display available materials from [Material] located in the upper menu bar.
    At the [Material] screen that appears after clicking on [Material] in the upper menu bar, the operations listed below can be performed.
    - It is possible to perform some of the same operations that can be performed in CLIP STUDIO PAINT's [Material palette] (organize, search, delete, download cloud install materials)
    - It is possible to update materials that were downloaded from ASSETS. By clicking the [Acquire Latest Information for [ASSETS] button, an update verification will be performed and an icon will appear on the materials which have an update.
    - It is possible to reference and edit material information. Double clicking the [To material information] block in the list will display the material information screen. Whether a material can be edited or not depends on if it's an original material created by the user or a material downloaded from ASSETS.
  4. It is now possible to publish materials on ASSETS.
    - Clicking the [Create material] tag from the [Material] screen, will limit the displayed materials to only original materials create by the user.
    To create material information for publishing, double click a material from the list then click the [to material information] block. At the information screen, input the material information.
    - The following steps explain the publishing process. When the preparations for publish are complete, double click the material on the [material] screen and click the [Post to ASSETS] block. Click the [Next] Setting public information] button to proceed to the publication settings input screen. Click the [Test upload] button to upload the material to the server. Follow the prompts to publish the material from the ASSETS[MyUpload] screen.
    - Depending on the program, CLIP STUDIO may automatically launch when a new upload is performed on ASSETS from a web browser. In other words, nothing will happen if CLIP STUDIO isn't installed on the computer. Material publication can only be performed via CLIP STUDIO and not from a web browser.
    - It is now possible upload multiple material at the same time through the [Material Catalog] feature. For more information, visit [Material catalog user's guide].
  5. The features below have been added to CLIP STUDIO PROFILE
    - Clicking the [Edit profile] button will show the [Edit your profile] screen.
    - From [Notifications], the new button (bell icon) added to the menu bar, it is now possible to confirm notification and direct messages. Unread content will be marked with a red notification badge [*].
  6. In addition, the following corrections and defect countermeasures have been added.
    - The [install material] command located in the [Settings] menu has been deleted. Hereafter, all of the pre-installed materials will be provided through the cloud. This applies to updates and new materials.
    - In addition to the rearrangement of the content in the [Help] menu, a new guide related to this update has been added.
    - The problem of a web browser alert page appearing when a button or menu was pressed during the software launching process has been fixed.
