CLIP STUDIO PAINT Version 1.7.1 release note (12/13/2017)

Main updates in Version 1.7.1

*The features marked with EX or PRO can be used only in [EX] or [PRO].

The [Quick Access] palette has been added. EXPRO

Menu commands, Auto Action, Sub tools, Drawing color etc. can be registered and executed directly from the [Quick Access] palette.

The latest info is displayed in CLIP STUDIO.

Information for ASSETS and ASK, as well as the official Facebook and Twitter's latest posts can viewed via the CLIP STUDIO application.

Adjust touch gesture operations. [Win]

A [Touch gesture] category has been added to the [Preferences] dialog box.
Make detailed adjustments, such as toggling touch gesture operations on and off.

Three new brushes have been added as initial tools.

[Real G-pen] has been added to the [Pen] tool, the [Real pencil] and [Design pencil] to the [Pencil] tool.

A Canvas restoration function has been added.

[Enable canvas restoration] has been added to the [Preferences] dialog under [File].
When enabled, canvas information is saved at regular intervals for restoration purposes. Should CLIP STUDIO PAINT close abnormally while editing a canvas, the canvas will be automatically restored at the next launch.

Corrections of Version 1.7.1

Improvements (DEBUT/PRO/EX)

  1. A launcher has been added when executing [Edit]→[Transform]. Transformation can be confirmed or canceled with the launcher.
  2. A launcher has been added when inputting text. Inputted text can be confirmed or canceled with the launcher. EX/PRO users can edit text by displaying the [Sub Tool Detail] palette.
  3. The [Real G-pen] sub tool has been added to the [Pen] tool.
  4. The [Real pencil] sub tool and [Design pencil] sub tool has been added to the [Pencil] tool.
  5. [Maximum value] can now be specified when using [Tilt] as the [Effect source] of [Tool Property]. Values defined by a pen’s tilt can now exceed 100%.
  6. 6 or more palettes can now be stacked and converted into a tab.
  7. Default names of new files have been changed from [New canvas] to [Illustration], [Comic], and [Animation].
  8. The [Navigator] palettes’ [Image preview] range has been widened.
  9. [Shape of cursor] can now be set to [None] from the [Preferences] dialog → [Cursor]. By doing so, the cursor will not be displayed on the canvas.
  10. [Try adjusted result] will be displayed after adjusting pen pressure by strokes with [File] menu ([CLIP STUDIO PAINT] menu in macOS)→[Pen Pressure Settings].
  11. [Change color name] has been added to the [Color Set] palette menu. Names of colors in a color set can now be changed. Color names can also be changed by right clicking on them in the [Color Set] palette.
  12. Text layer font compatibility across platforms has been improved.
  13. Function keys can now be used to check animations with [Animation] menu → [Check cel motion by key input] or [Check surrounding cels by key input].
  14. [Import color set material] palette has been added to the [Color Set] palette. Color Set materials downloaded from CLIP STUDIO ASSETS can be imported.
  15. [Import sub tool material] has been added to the [Sub Tool] palette. Sub Tool materials downloaded from CLIP STUDIO ASSETS can be imported.
  16. [Enable canvas recovery] has been added to the [Preferences] dialog→[File]. If CLIP STUDIO PAINT does not close normally while editing a canvas, the edited canvas will be automatically restored upon next activation.
  17. The following items have been added to the 3D drawing figure and 3D character material [Object launcher].
    - [Joint fixation] has been added. A selected part’s joints can now be fixed/unfixed.
    - [Release fixation of all joints] has been added. A selected 3D material’s joints can be unfixed simultaneously.
  18. [Show/Hide all palette] can be assigned to a Tab-Mate Controller.
  19. [CLIP STUDIO TABMATE] has been added to the [File] menu ([CLIP STUDIO PAINT] menu in macOS). A CLIP STUDIO TABMATE (sold separately) can be connected and set up.
    - In [CLIP STUDIO TABMATE Settings], operations can be assigned to CLIP STUDIO TABMATE.
    - In [Tool Rotation], tools to rotate when CLIP STUDIO TABMATE’s button is pressed can be set.
  20. [Win] A [Touch gesture] category has been added to [Preferences]. Touch gesture controls can be set.
  21. [Win] [Undo] and [Redo] can now be executed with touch gestures. These settings can be enabled/disabled in the [Preferences] dialog.
    - To [Undo], two finger tap the canvas.
    - To [Redo], press and tap the canvas.
  22. [Win] When using the [Eyedropper] tool with a finger, colors above the finger will be selected and displayed around the finger.
  23. [Win] Improved response when using touch operations with the [Color Wheel] palette.
  24. [mac] The following items will now be displayed in high resolution on a retina display.
    - Canvas control slider
    - [Navigator] palette slider
    - [Sub View] palette slider
    - [Brush Size] palette slider
    - [Font list] of [Tool Property] when inputting text.

Improvements (PRO/EX)

  1. [Quick Access] palette has been added. Items such as “Main menu” commands, auto actions, sub tools, and drawing colors can be assigned to the [Quick Access] palette. Assigned functions can be executed from the [Quick Access] palette.
  2. The [Selection Launcher Settings] dialog has several changes.
    - In place of previews, users can now change settings while visually confirming the selection launcher.
    - [Sub Tool], [Drawing color], and [Pop-up palette] have been added to the [Setting area]. These functions can be assigned to the selection launcher.
    - More items can be set when selecting [Options]. Items such as canvas control and perspective rulers can now be added.
    - [Show/hide all palettes] has been added to [Main menu].
  3. The selection launcher can now be edited directly.
    - The position of the selection launcher icons can be changed with [Ctrl] + mouse drag.
    - Selection Launcher icons can be edited by right clicking the Selection Launcher.
  4. [Command Bar Settings] dialog has been changed.
    - In place of previews, users can now change settings while visually confirming the Command Bar.

  6. [Horizontalize eye level] has been added to the [Tool Property] when selecting the [Object] sub tool with the [Perspective ruler].
  7. More items can be set when selecting [Shortcut Settings].
    - [Pop-up palette] has been added to the [Setting area].
    - [Horizontalize eye level] and [Fix eye level] has been added when selecting [Options] from the [Setting area].
  8. [None] can be selected from the pulldown menu when setting [Settings for each process of tool] in the [Modifier Key Settings] dialog. Depending on the tool, [Common settings] can be overridden.
  9. [Import material set] has been added to the [Auto Action] palette. Auto action set materials downloaded from CLIP STUDIO ASSETS can be imported.

Improvements (EX)

  1. [Win] [All sides view] palette can now be controlled with fingers.

Changes of specification (DEBUT/PRO/EX)

  1. When using the following operations on a layer mask, areas outside of the canvas can also be masked. - [Edit] menu → [Clear Outside Selection] - [Edit] menu → [Clear](when there is no selection)
  2. Palette dock features have been changed.
    - The palette can be popped up by clicking on a palette icon tab.
    - [Minimize palette dock] and [Turn palette dock to tab] icons have been added above the palette. Palette icons can be displayed as tabs without stacking palette docks.
    - The palette dock tab on the bottom of the screen is now displayed as an icon.
    -[Minimize palette dock] on the bottom of the palette dock is now displayed on the left side. [Turn palette dock to tab] icon has been added.
  3. [Crop] has been added to the default layout of the [Selection Launcher].
  4. The maximum [Thickness] of drawing tools’ [Tool Property] is now 1000.
  5. When using [Tilt] as the [Effect source] of [Tool Property], the default [Settings of tilt] graph value now becomes larger along with the pen’s tilt.
  6. Several drawing sub tool default values have been changed. They now support pen tilt.
  7. The following operations can now be used on items selected in the [Shortcut Settings] dialog with a click.
    - Opening/closing items
    - Shortcut inputs
  8. Improved response when using touch operations with the palette slider. The palette cannot be scrolled with fingers while on the slider.
  9. The following dialogs and lists will now be displayed larger when dragged to the edge.
    - [Font list] of [Tool Property] when inputting text.
    - [Settings of font list] dialog
    - [Initial boot] dialog
  10. The launcher will now move when moving a selection area or 3D material.
  11. The definition of a drag and a click has been changed when using tools such as the [Selection area] tool and [Text] tool. As long as it is for a short time, when dragging with a pen, it will be judged as clicking, even if the drag distance is somewhat long.
  12. [File] menu (macOS: [CLIP STUDIO PAINT] menu)→[Start CLIP STUDIO] has been changed to [Open CLIP STUDIO].
  13. The following palettes can be displayed in a more narrow space.
    - [Information] palette
    - [Sub Tool] palette
  14. Icons that are displayed when using the [Object] sub tool, such as the rotation handles of image materials and the position of the triangle button to expand the frame border have been changed.
  15. Regardless of the [Cursor] settings in [Preferences], the brush size cursor will be displayed in the middle of the canvas when changing a tool’s [Brush size].
  16. The default settings of [Tool Property] such as [Roundness of corner] for [Rectangle] and other tools, has been changed to [Specify length].
  17. [Fit to screen], [Reset display] from the [View] menu will now show areas according to the view regardless of canvas size.
  18. Methods on how to display any hidden text in the palette and dialog have been unified. ・Scale down the text by scaling down horizontally. Any remaining hidden text will fade out at the border.
  19. When the [Pen Pressure Settings] dialog is displayed, the pens’ tail switch and swipe will not change the current tool.
  20. Default setting of [Preferences] dialog →[Cursor]→[Display position of reversed cursor (Brush-size/Sight/Single pixel dot)] has been changed to [No delay].
  21. Holding down the Tab-Mate Controller button now repeats the assigned command.
  22. [Tab-Mate Controller Settings] dialogs’ [Change tool temporarily] has been renamed to [Change tools]. The functions are the same as the previous [Change tools].
  23. [Win] Tapping the input area of a dialogue or palette will start the input with all fonts selected.
  24. [Win] When inputting a text layer, single swipe controls and settings will no longer be reflected.
  25. [Win] When selecting a 3D layer with the [Object] sub tool, the [Tool Property] palettes’ [Light Source direction] can now be operated with swipes.
  26. [Win] When touch operating sub tools that need multiple clicks to use such as [Polyline], the line will be previewed while the finger is moving, and will be confirmed after the finger is lifted. Additionally, the process will be confirmed when somewhere other than the canvas is touched.
  27. [Win] When turning [Adjust an interface to suit touch operations] on from the [Preferences] dialog, the [Timeline] palette’s command bar size will change according to the interface.
  28. [Win] [Configure basic layout of the palettes to one for tablets] has been added to the [Preferences] dialogue→[Interface]. When ON, the palette layout will be changed to one suited for tablets.
  29. [Win] When using the [Text] tool or [Transform] command, the area of the displayed handles and border lines responsive to touch controls becomes larger.
  30. [Win] When touch controls are set to ON, operations such as the [Polyline] sub tool cannot continue being input by touch if the line was first drawn with a pen or mouse.
  31. [Win] The [Tab-Mate Controller Settings] dialogue’s display method when the OS text size is large has been changed. Items in the list will automatically change height.
  32. [Win] The layout of the dialogue displayed when a number dialog is tapped has changed. When somewhere other than the dialog is tapped, the input is confirmed and the dialog will close.
  33. [mac] In a retina display environment, the clickable area of the handles and borders that are displayed when the [Text] tool or [Transform] command are used have been changed.

Changes of specification (PRO/EX)

  1. When switching between [Illustration] and [Show all comic settings] in [New] dialog’s [Use of work], certain settings will not be carried on.
  2. Icon designs of certain commands displayed in the [Command Bar] and [Selection Launcher] have been changed.
  3. When dragging the edge of the [Color profile preview] dialog, it can now be displayed wider.
  4. [History] palette can be displayed in a thinner place.
  5. [Mouse], [Pen/Gesture] have been added to the [Modifier Key Settings] dialog’s [Refine].
  6. The icons displayed after the following operations have been changed.
    - Execute [Reset] from the [Command Bar Settings] dialog.
    - Switch workspaces with [Window] menu→[Workspace].
  7. [Win] The [Modifier Key Settings] dialogue’s display method when the OS text size is large has been changed. Items in the list will automatically change height.
  8. [Win] Vector lines can now be selected when using touch operations with the [Control point] sub tool.

Changes of specification (EX)

  1. [Page Management] menu’s [Combine Pages] and [Split Pages] cannot be used if the file is externally edited after the processing page has been opened.
  2. [Win] The [Batch process] dialogue’s display method when the OS text size is large has been changed. Items in the list will automatically change height.

In addition, 30 other bugs were addressed.

  1. “CLIP STUDIO START” screen will be displayed during startup
    - Information from CELSYS and the latest useful information will now be displayed in real time.
  2. CLIP STUDIO TIPS service support has been added
    - “TIPS” has been added in the left menu. Click on it to display the TIPS service.
  3. “Material” menu updates
    - The menu screen displayed below is now also available in Traditional Chinese, Korean, French, Spanish, and German.
