Clip Studio Paint April 2026 patch update now available

Clip Studio Paint EX/PRO Ver. 5.0.4 for Windows / macOS / iPad / iPhone / Android was released on April 21. This update is available to owners of the following:

What’s New in Clip Studio Paint Ver. 5.0.4?

The following updates have been made.

All Grades
  • When switching to edit mode for Smart Shape, you can now snap to fixed angles when moving shapes or control points while holding down the Shift key.

  • (macOS / iPad / iPhone) When importing FBX files, shape normals are now calculated automatically for files that do not contain them.

  • (iPad / Android) When syncing from the Manage works screen in Clip Studio, if the sync fails because the canvas is open in Clip Studio Paint, See more details has been added to the message that appears. Clicking this will display an FAQ to resolve the issue. (This does not apply to smartphone devices.)

  • (macOS) When selecting a 3D layer with the Object tool, the drawing color circle now displays correctly even if you switch to the Eyedropper tool by right-clicking.

  • In the 3D hand model's slider mode, adjustments can now be made more naturally in conjunction with the hand movements.

  • Changed some specifications of the sliders for adjusting fingers in the 3D hand model's slider mode. When you select a handle for editing fingers, the slider for bending the fingers now appears on top. Also, moving the slider to the left bends the fingers, and moving it to the right extends them.

  • Improved the response when Joint angle limit is turned on when editing with the 3D hand model's gimbal mode.

  • After a license expires, a dialog notifying you of the expiration will now only appear on the next startup.

  • If a shape is initially converted to a triangle with Smart Shape, it can now always be converted to an equilateral triangle.

  • If a shape is initially converted to a quadrilateral with Smart Shape, it can now always be converted to a rectangle or a standard square.

  • If a shape is initially converted to an ellipse with Smart Shape, it can now always be converted to a perfect circle.

  • When clicking Edit on the Smart Shape launcher, the shape converted at the start of the Smart Shape now appears at the left end of the launcher.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, posing with the Hand Scanner while the 3D drawing figure is selected now applies the pose to the 3D hand model.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Android) Changed the message that appears on the next startup after closing the application with an open canvas.

  • Undo now works correctly after adding a 3D background material to a 3D layer.

  • In the 3D hand model's slider mode, the slider handle positions are now saved even if you select a different part.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, the way that a hand pose is applied depends on how the 3D drawing figure is selected.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure and using a pose sequence, poses are now applied to the 3D hand model according to the pose number. The joints of the 3D hand model are also now naturally adjusted.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, applying a pose material now naturally adjusts the joints between the 3D hand model and the 3D drawing figure.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, resetting the 3D drawing figure's pose now also resets the 3D hand model's pose. The joints of the 3D hand model are also now naturally adjusted.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, applying a pose material now correctly bends the wrist of the 3D hand model.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, Undo now works correctly when applying a pose from pose data (extension: pep) created in POSE STUDIO.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, using Flip Horizontal or Mirror pose on the 3D drawing figure now reflects the pose on the 3D hand model.

  • Poses are now applied correctly when the Object scale of the 3D hand model is set to something other than 100%.

  • When selecting the Window menu > Canvas > New Canvas to display duplicates of the same canvas, the Smart Shape launcher now only appears on the canvas currently being edited.

  • In Smart Shape edit mode, pressing the Enter or Esc key while dragging to edit and then releasing the key after ending the edit, will no longer confirm or cancel actions.

  • When using Smart Shape at the edge of the canvas, the Smart Shape launcher no longer protrudes outside the canvas.

  • When using Smart Shape with Show stroke preview to reduce brush lag turned on in Preferences, parts of the drawing will no longer remain on the canvas after using Undo or Redo.

  • When drawing with a large brush size, using Smart Shape by long-pressing outside the canvas will no longer draw outside the canvas.

  • The Smart Shape launcher can now be operated correctly even when the canvas magnification is set to an extreme level.

  • When switching shapes in Smart Shape edit mode, the center position for scaling and rotating now switches to match the shape.

  • After creating a shape with Smart Shape, changing settings such as the drawing color or in the Advanced Tool Settings palette, and then switching to edit mode, these settings will no longer be applied to the drawn shape.

  • When editing a polyline in Smart Shape edit mode, a control point is now always created at the end point of the drawing.

  • When using Smart Shape with a brush that has Watercolor edge and Process after brush stroke turned on in the Tool Settings or Advanced Tool Settings palette, the drawing quality of the blurred parts is now maintained.

  • The Smart Shape launcher now appears in windows opened by selecting the Window menu > Canvas > New Window.

  • Fixed an issue where, when Save recovery data for every operation is turned on in Preferences, selecting a 3D primitive with the Object tool and operating the following sliders with the mouse wheel in the Advanced Tool Settings or Tool Property palettes would stop recovery info from being recorded for subsequent editing actions.

  • Fixed an issue where using Maintenance Menu > Organize Material Database in Clip Studio caused the Material palette to return to its initial state when Frequency was selected for sorting materials.

  • Fixed an issue where running Maintenance Menu > Organize Material Database in Clip Studio caused the Manage materials screen to return to its initial state when Frequency was selected for sorting materials.

  • When painting on a 3D model, the rendering of the end of a stroke is now reflected immediately after the stroke is completed.

  • The edges of lines drawn on 3D models no longer appear rough.

  • Improved responsiveness when moving 3D layers or switching frames on a canvas with a light table enabled.

  • When image materials in Recently used materials in the Material palette are used to register or change the brush tip shape, they now remain in Recently used materials.

  • When image materials in Recently used materials in the Manage materials screen are used to register or change the brush tip shape, they now remain in Recently used materials.

  • When image materials in Recently used materials in the Material palette are used for a brush texture, they now remain in Recently used materials.

  • Fixed an issue that caused unnamed folders to be created in the Material palette or the material management screen, and deleting this folder would delete all materials inside.

  • Drawing a polyline completely different from a regular polygon and switching to Smart Shape edit mode will no longer display Regular polygon in the Smart Shape launcher.

  • When drawing a short line, changing it to Curve via the Smart Shape launcher, and manipulating control points in edit mode, the drawn line now correctly follows without deviating from the control points.

  • When copying a layer with Clip to Layer Below enabled to the clipboard and pasting it into another application, the Clip to Layer Below setting is now reflected.

  • When a 3D hand model is set in a parent-child relationship with a 3D drawing figure, using Pose hand while the 3D drawing figure is selected now applies the pose to the 3D hand model.

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Android) Saved the Do not show again setting for the message that appears when using Window menu > Workspace > Ver. 4.2 basic layout. (This excludes smartphone devices.)

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Android) When Pop-up related palettes for each tools is turned on from the Tool palette menu and linked palettes are displayed, the title bar height of the linked palettes now displays correctly even on high display scaling settings. (This does not apply to smartphone devices.)

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Android) The positions of the Command Bar, Quick Access palette, and Selection Launcher are no longer reset when launching from the Reset to original defaults dialog with Preferences, Shortcut Key Settings, or Window position selected. (This does not apply to smartphone devices.)

  • (macOS / iPad / iPhone / Android) Fixed an issue where the application could sometimes unexpectedly quit when connecting to Companion mode.

  • (iPad / Android) When closing the “Start drawing" prompt displayed upon launching Clip Studio using the x in the top right, the icon badge will now disappear if all tutorials on the learning screen have been completed. (This excludes smartphone devices.)

  • (iPad / Android) In Studio Mode, you can now draw and use other tools even when tapping near the lock icon on the Doodle Mode bar. (This does not apply to smartphone devices.)

  • ( iPhone / Android) On smartphones, the position of the Quick Access palette is no longer reset when launching from the Reset to original defaults dialog with Preferences, Shortcut Key Settings, or Window position selected.

  • (Windows) When drawing on the canvas using a mouse, the start of the stroke now appears correctly.

  • (Windows) When switching to tools like the Curve tool using modifier keys or tool shift, you can now keep drawing with brushes even if you release the key while drawing.

  • (macOS) Fixed an issue in macOS 26 where the F and C keys would sometimes stop responding when entering text, and the screen would subsequently become unresponsive.

  • (Android) Fixed an issue where some characters would not display on the canvas when using certain fonts with the Text tool.

  • (Android) On smartphones, fixed an issue where the Simple Mode and Studio Mode UI would appear mixed and multiple palettes would appear while the progress bar for recovering files in Simple Mode was displayed.

  • When using Register shape as material... on a 3D hand model, the material thumbnail now reflects the initial pose of the 3D hand model.

  • Improved behavior when drawing on a vector layer using a brush with multiple image materials registered to its tip shape, while Save recovery data for every operation is turned on in the Preferences dialog.

  • Image materials and template materials, including 3D hand model materials, can now be synced to the Clip Studio cloud and published to Clip Studio Assets.

  • When drawing triangles, quadrangles, or polygons using Smart Shape on a vector layer with a brush that has Starting and ending settings in the Advanced Tool Settings palette, control points are now created at the start of the "starting" position and the end of the "ending" position, and the starting and ending effect is rendered correctly.

  • When selecting a frame border with only one corner control point using the Object tool, the handle for moving the edge will no longer appear.

  • When using the Balloon pen or Frame border pen tools and selecting Continuous curve in the Smart Shape launcher, the start and end of the drawing will be control points that are not corners. Also, selecting Polyline, Straight line, or Curve now makes the start and end of the drawing corner into control points.

  • When using Smart Shape with the Balloon pen tool, balloons can now be created outside the canvas.

  • After using Smart Shape with the Balloon pen tool, the position of text inside the balloon will no longer shift if you use Undo.

  • Using Smart Shape on a tool where the Input process is set to Brush and Output process is set to Focus lines or Speed lines will no longer add a layer with each edit, even when there is an active selection.

  • Undo now behaves correctly after confirming a Smart Shape edit with a tool where Input process is set to Brush and Output process is set to Focus lines or Speed lines.

  • All operations using the mouse wheel in the All sides view palette are now recorded in the History palette.

What's new in Clip Studio Paint Ver. 5.0.0 (released March 11, 2026)

Smart Shape allows you to intuitively and quickly draw straight lines, curves, and shapes without switching tools

Smart Shape has been added. You can now draw clean straight lines, curves, and figures with a pen or brush by long-pressing with the pen on the spot without switching to a Figure tool. You can toggle Smart Shape settings from Smart Shape in the Preferences dialog > Tool.

High-quality 3D hand models allow you to adjust the hand appearance to suit your character design

Hand model has been added to 3D in the Material palette. It includes high-quality 3D hand models with a range of customizable hand shapes that you can use as a reference for drawing hands. You can also pose them using hand pose materials or the Hand Scanner.

More types of 3D objects can now be drawn or painted on

  • You can now draw on more 3D objects using drawing tools.

  • Batch export textures has been added to the Tool Settings palette and Advanced Tool Settings palette when a 3D layer is selected with the Object tool. You can export all textures of your own custom material or 3D model at once. (EX)

Height-based fog

You can now select Height from Fog type in the Tool Settings palette when a 3D layer is selected with the Object tool. Fog can be set according to the height of the 3D space, and you can set the direction to start from above or from below.

Tonal Correction for multiple layers

Commands in the Edit menu > Tonal Correction can now be applied to multiple layers. Color corrections can be applied to each layer.

Improved processing speed for transformations

We have improved the speed of transformations made from the Edit menu > Transform on raster layers.

Improved usability of the Material palette

  • A Recently used materials folder has been added to the Material palette. You can select materials from those you have previously used.

  • Frequency has been added to Sorting in the Material palette menu. Materials can be displayed in order of usage frequency.

  • The position of the icon in the upper right corner of the thumbnail of materials downloaded from ASSETS in the Material palette has been moved to the upper right corner of the thumbnail in the material details. The icon design has also been changed to that of Clip Studio. Tap it to open the material information in Clip Studio Assets as before.

  • The save location of a selected material is now shown in the material details of the Material palette. Tap the location information to select the folder where the material is registered.

Improved workspace and palettes

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Android) Pop-up related palettes for each tool has been added to the Tool palette menu. Turn this on to pop up the Tool Group palette and Tool Settings palette when you tap the icon for the selected tool group on the Tool palette. You can also tap the color icons to pop up the Color Wheel palette and Color Set palette for color selection. (This excludes smartphone devices.)

  • The name "Sub Tool" has been changed to "Tool". The interface names and dialogs have been updated accordingly.

    • The Sub Tool palette has been renamed to the Tool Group palette.

    • The Tool Group menu > Tool Settings dialog has been renamed to Tool Properties.

    • The Tool Property palette has been renamed to the Tool Settings palette.

    • The Sub Tool Detail palette has been renamed to the Advanced Tool Settings palette.

Sequential saving of canvas editing operations

Save recovery data for every operation has been added to the Preferences dialog > File. When turned on, the changes after each action on the canvas can be recorded. If Clip Studio Paint closes unexpectedly, the canvas will be restored to its last edited state based on the recorded information upon restart.

Batch toggle draft layers (EX / PRO)

Hide all visible draft layers has been added to the Layer menu. Tap once to hides all visible draft layers. Tap again to restore the previous display state.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Android) In Simple Mode, materials used in Studio Mode are now also shown in the History tab of the Material palette.

  • (iPad / Android) On tablets, new items have been added to the Simple Mode tooltips.

  • (iPad / Android) On tablets, the required time for each tutorial is now displayed in Learning in the Simple Mode tooltips.

  • (Android) The Import from in-app clipboard option has been added to the Sub View palette menu. Images copied from the canvas can be loaded into the Sub View palette. You can do the same with Sub View palette menu in Simple Mode.

  • The application icon and the splash screen displayed at startup have been updated.

  • The default layout of the application has been changed. You can update to the new layout by selecting Window menu > Workspace > Reset to default.

  • Ver. 4.2 layout has been added to the Window menu > Workspace. Use this to return to the default layout as of Ver. 4.2.

  • The default layout of the Command Bar has been changed.

  • The default setting for the Window menu > Always Show Tab in Canvas has been changed. Tabs are no longer displayed when there is only one canvas.

  • The design of the Command Bar Settings icon displayed on the Command Bar and Quick Access palette has been changed.

  • The design of the color icons in the Tool palette and Color Wheel palette has been changed.

  • The layout of the Command Bar, Quick Access palette, and Selection Launcher is now recorded at the first startup and initialized startup.

  • (macOS / iPad / iPhone) The library for importing FBX files has been updated.

  • (Windows / macOS) Enable canvas recovery and Save interval for recovery info in the Preferences dialog > File have been integrated into Save recovery data every (x) minutes.

  • The Rendering Method setting is now maintained when saving and reopening a canvas containing a 3D layer set to Ver.1.12.3 or earlier in the Rendering settings dialog.

  • Facial expressions for Ver. 1.5 compatible 3D character materials can now be selected correctly.

  • When overwriting a canvas while a recovery canvas is saved, the creation date of the saved file is no longer updated.

  • The Position in frame setting in the Tool Settings or Advanced Tool Settings palette for the Text tool is now maintained after you restart Clip Studio Paint.

  • For some 3D characters imported from VRM files, the behavior when dragging the legs is now the same as for 3D drawing figures.

  • It is now faster to save and open canvases containing 3D characters with skirt settings, and the display of 3D characters no longer distorts.

  • Skirts with enabled skirt settings now display correctly even when manipulating 3D characters with Object scale set.

  • More 3D character materials can now be imported correctly onto the canvas.

  • After saving a canvas and updating Recent files, the file is now correctly displayed in File menu > Recent files even after restarting Clip Studio Paint.

  • Text linked to a balloon no longer moves when you use Undo after editing the balloon with the Redraw vector line tool.

  • When running an Auto Action that applies Edit menu > Tonal Correction > Brightness/Contrast to a layer mask, the behavior is now the same as when it was recorded.

  • When Watercolor edge is selected from Border effect in the Layer Properties palette and Blurring width is set, the blurred part of the watercolor edge is now drawn without being cut off.

  • Block-like patterns are no longer drawn when Watercolor edge is selected from Border effect in the Layer Properties palette and items such as Area and Blurring width are set to specific values.

  • When using the page management window more than once to open a canvas with a 3D layer selected, the crop marks and guide lines now appear correctly.

  • Positions no longer shift significantly when operating objects without thickness, such as planes and polygon primitives, with the root manipulator while snapping is enabled.

  • In a timeline-enabled canvas, when a 3D layer set to an animation cel is selected and Lock current animation cel as editing target is turned on in the Animation Cels palette, the 3D layer is now rendered correctly even when switching frames in the Timeline palette.

  • You can now revert a light table layer to its pre-transformation state even if you turn off Enable light table and use Undo after transforming the light table layer.

  • The behavior of 3D drawing figures and 3D character materials with Partial rotation set to specific values has been improved when Joint angle limit is turned on.

  • When selecting a 3D background material with the Object tool, the movement manipulator now appears as it did before Ver. 4.0.

  • Files with set color profiles now take less time to load, even when repeatedly opened.

  • When a specific item is selected with the movement manipulator of a 3D layer, starting a drag over the Snap to 3D models icon no longer executes the operation currently selected with the movement manipulator.

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Android) Fixed an issue where Clip Studio Paint would sometimes crash when closing a canvas after running an Auto Action containing Save and Copy and Paste operations for 3D layers while Save in background is turned on in the Preferences dialog.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Android) Materials now appear correctly in the Downloads list of the Material palette in Simple Mode, even if only materials not supported in Simple Mode have been downloaded.

  • (iPad / Android) Fixed an issue where the notification mark on the Clip Studio icon would sometimes not disappear on tablets. This has also been fixed for Simple Mode.

  • (Windows) Fixed an issue where docking a palette to the Palette dock would cause the app to force close.

  • (macOS) When Direction of pen or Pen tilt is selected in Angle Dynamics in the Tool Settings or Advanced Tool Settings palette, the shape of the stroke ending drawn on the canvas is now displayed correctly.

  • (iPhone) The header color is now displayed correctly when the Getting Started or New Feature/Release Notes screens are displayed from the Help menu.

  • Hide all visible draft layers has been added to the Layer menu. Tap once to hides all visible draft layers. Tap again to restore the previous display state.

  • The conditions for the camera of a newly created 3D layer to align with the perspective ruler when dragging and dropping 3D materials onto the canvas have been changed. 3D materials will be placed along the perspective ruler when there is only one perspective ruler on the canvas and the 3D layer's camera can be aligned with the perspective.

  • The correct layer is now selected when performing Redo for the following operations:

    • Convert Layer

    • Divide frame border equally

    • Combine frames

    • Dividing a frame folder using the Divide frame folder tool

  • When Snap to special rulers is off and Snap to grid is on in the View menu > Snap, line adjustments caused by brush settings such as Post correction or Vector magnet will snap to the canvas grid even when a perspective ruler is displayed, as long as its grid is not displayed.

  • Dragging a control point while holding down the Shift key with the Control point tool now moves it horizontally, vertically, or diagonally at 45 degrees, even if snap settings are disabled.

  • When dragging a control point while holding down the Shift key with the Control point tool, releasing the Shift key and continuing to drag will now move the control point to the mouse cursor position.

  • When selecting a ruler with the Object tool, the process of turning on Scale in the Tool Settings palette, setting it to Equal division, and setting a value for Number of divisions is now recorded as a single operation in the History palette, similar to other items.

  • (macOS / iPad / iPhone) Perspective ruler grid intervals no longer change when moving files to different environments. The grid interval may differ from perspective rulers created in previous versions.

  • Batch export textures has been added to the Tool Settings palette and Advanced Tool Settings palette when a 3D layer is selected with the Object tool. You can export all textures of your own custom material or 3D model at once.

  • Embed ICC profile has been added to the Export settings dialog when exporting in PDF format from the File menu > Export multiple pages menu command. You can embed color profiles in PDFs. Also, you can now select CMYK color from Expression color. You can also export PDFs with embedded CMYK color profiles.

  • Changed the interface when selecting Only body pages in Page range of the Batch export dialog from the File menu > Export multiple pages > Batch export.

  • Camera operations in the All sides view palette are no longer registered in the History palette, even immediately after opening a file.

  • The display order of text in the Story Editor no longer changes from the last session when opening a canvas saved after performing certain operations.

  • Image sequences can now be exported correctly even when executing File menu > Export animation > Image sequence for canvases containing a "%" in the timeline name.
