Clip Studio Paint Ver. 3.0.0 has been released

The Clip Studio Paint EX/PRO Ver. 3.0.0 feature update for Windows / macOS / iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook was released on March 14.

This update is available to users with the following licenses:

  • Annual/Monthly plan
  • Update Pass
  • One-time purchase (perpetual version) for Ver. 3.0
    This includes those who upgraded with the pre-release offer for Ver. 3.0 and the discounted version upgrade from Ver. 2.0 one-time purchase licenses.

On Windows and macOS, you can update the app from Clip Studio.
All versions other than Windows and macOS will be available for download from their respective app stores as soon as the review process is complete.

New Functions for Clip Studio Paint Ver. 3.0.0

The following functions have been added to Ver. 3.0.0.

Color Match to intuitively change colors by setting images and gradations for target colors (EX/PRO)

Color Match has been added to the Edit menu > Tonal Correction. You can adjust the colors of your artwork by importing another image or gradient.

Layer Comps for creating and managing differences (EX)

The Layer Comps palette has been added. Layer Comps make it easy to save different variations of your work made with different layers hidden or shown.

Filters to easily adjust the finish of your work

  • Chromatic aberration has been added to the Filter menu > Effect. You can express the color shift caused by misalignment of colored light.
  • Noise has been added to the Filter menu > Effect. You can apply a fine noise effect to make images look like film.
  • Retro film has been added to the Filter menu > Effect. Add chromatic aberration and noise at the same time to add a grainy texture and exposure variations that resembles film photographs.
  • Pencil drawing has been added to the Filter menu > Effect. You can adjust hatching and outline settings to apply a pencil texture to your work.

Integration with “Posemaniacs” 3D pose site

You can now import poses from the Posemaniacs website onto 3D layers. By selecting File menu > Import > 3D pose (Posemaniacs), you can import poses to 3D drawing figures from the Posemaniacs website. You can also load poses from Posemanics using Pose in the Tool Property palette when selecting a 3D drawing figure or 3D character material.

Support for 3D models with shape keys

A Shape setting has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette for 3D materials in the Object category. You can use the shape keys of imported 3D objects to manipulate the shape of the mesh.

Enhanced Text Tools

  • The Circular text category has been added to the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a text layer with a Text tool or Object sub tool. When Circular text is on, you can type text along a circular path.
  • Added Clip Studio Comic, a new font for comics with a handwritten feel.

Save and import customized export presets

Settings in the Export Settings dialog can now be registered as a preset. You can load registered export presets to export again using the same settings. You can also register and load presets in the same way when exporting animations in the Export image sequence and Export animation cels dialogs.

Audio scrubbing

Audio scrubbing has been added to the Animation menu. Audio files will now replay when you move through frames on the timeline.

Clip Studio Tabmate 2

Clip Studio Paint Ver. 3.0.0 is compatible with the Clip Studio Tabmate 2 handheld device released in March 2024. You can connect it by selecting the Clip Studio Paint logo menu or File menu > CLIP STUDIO TABMATE > Register new Tabmate 2.

(iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) New portal screen at launch

We have redesigned the interface of the portal screen that appears when starting the application. The same interface appears even if the device environment such as OS or browser is different. Tap Draw to switch to Clip Studio Paint.

  • In the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a text layer using the Text tool or the Object sub tool, 3.0.0 has been added to the Compatibility category under Version. Newly entered text in Ver. 3.0 or later is set to 3.0.0 by default.

  • In the New dialog, you can now overwrite existing presets by registering a new preset with the same name as the existing preset. However, you cannot overwrite the default presets.

  • Settings in the Export Settings dialog can now be registered as a preset. You can load registered export presets to export again using the same settings. You can also register and load presets in the same way when exporting animations in the Export image sequence and Export animation cels dialogs.

  • Audio scrubbing has been added to the Animation menu. Audio files will now replay when you move through frames on the timeline.

  • A message will appear if you try to import an audio file that cannot be played in Clip Studio Paint from the File menu > Import > Audio.

  • Improved the visibility of the waveform for audio clips on the Timeline palette.

  • Clip Studio Paint Ver. 3.0.0 is compatible with the Clip Studio Tabmate 2 handheld device released in March 2024. You can connect it by selecting the Clip Studio Paint logo menu or File menu > CLIP STUDIO TABMATE > Register new Tabmate 2.

  • “Clip Studio Comic” has been added to the included fonts.

  • Texture colors are now reflected when loading Wavefront OBJ format files output by certain applications.

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / iPhone) Normal maps are now reflected when loading FBX format files output by certain applications.

  • You can now import and export WebP files (extension: webp).

  • A search function has been added to the Quick Access palette. Enter keywords to find a feature to the Quick Access palette.

  • Grips have been added to sets in the list in the Edit Color Set and Edit Set dialogs. Drag the grips to change the order of the sets. The Up and Down buttons in the dialog have been removed.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) We have redesigned the interface of the portal screen that appears when starting the application. The same interface appears even if the device environment such as OS or browser is different.

  • When you launch Clip Studio or Clip Studio Paint from your browser, the application will automatically be logged in with your Clip Studio account. (There may be some cases where automatic login is not possible.)

  • (Windows / macOS / iPad / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) Disable palette operation with finger or mouse has been added to Preferences > Touch gestures. When turned on, you will not be able to interact with palettes with your finger or mouse, which will prevent you from accidentally operating a palette if your finger or mouse accidentally presses it while drawing on the canvas.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) You can now use keyboard shortcuts and Clip Studio Tabmate in Simple Mode. You can also use Air Actions on Galaxy devices.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) When you import a photo taken with a camera using the File menu > Import > Camera, Save restore information or Save overwrite will run automatically.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) Scroll bars have been added to some of the interface in Simple Mode.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) Changed the message that appears if failing to login when launching Clip Studio Paint in Simple Mode from a browser.

  • (Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) Canvases containing hidden 3D layers now export faster.

  • (iPad / iPhone) When you copy an image taken with the camera from the OS Photos app and paste it into Clip Studio Paint, the image will be pasted in the same orientation as the Photos app.

  • The upper limit of the specular index (gloss intensity) when displaying 3D models was 128, but the specular index is no longer limited for 3D models that are set to 129 or higher.

  • The standard for displaying lens shift has been changed from the amount of movement when the canvas width is 1 to the tangent of the angle between the camera and screen.

  • In exported timelapse videos, the Clip Studio Paint logo and watermark are now composited and displayed on top of the final fade effect.

  • When saving an Adobe Photoshop Document (extension: psd) or Adobe Photoshop Big Document (extension: psb) file, the transparent parts (alpha channel) are maintained in the merged image. However, if Output as background is turned on the Export Settings dialog, the alpha channel will not be exported. Also, if exported from the File menu > Export multiple pages > Export fanzine printing data, the alpha channel will not be exported.

  • Transparent parts are now reflected when importing Adobe Photoshop Document (extension: psd) or Adobe Photoshop Big Document (extension: psb) files from the File menu > Image or when importing them as textures for 3D primitives.

  • The Ligatures setting has been moved to the Font category > Opentype features in the Sub Tool Detail palette when selecting a text layer with a Text tool or Object sub tool.

  • (iPad / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) We have removed the “Latest information” pop-up that appears when starting the application.

  • (iPad / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) On tablets, Show/hide all palettes has been added to the command bar.

  • Changed the criteria for determining dragging and clicking of parts of 3D drawing figures and 3D character materials. It's now easier to switch to the pose controllers.

  • Initial pose has been removed from the object launcher for 3D head models.

  • Layer menu > File Object > Convert layer to file object can no longer be used for layers that are locked due to version compatibility issues.

  • When entering values for L*, a*, and b* in the Color Settings dialog, previously incorrectly displayed colors will now appear correctly.

  • When loading Photoshop gradient files (extension: grd) or Photoshop color swatch format (extension: aco) files composed of L*a*b*, previously incorrectly displayed colors will now appear correctly.

  • Fonts are no longer replaced when a canvas containing a text layer with variable fonts is opened on another OS.

  • When exporting an Adobe Photoshop Document (extension: psd) or Adobe Photoshop Big Document (extension: psb) with Output as background turned on in the Export settings dialog box, the export preview will not have transparency.

  • You can now import audio files (extension: wav) that include some additional information.

  • Colors will always blend correctly when using the Brush tool in the Color mixing palette and drawing tools with the settings Blend for Color mixing and Perceptual for Mixing mode in the Sub Tool Detail palette > Ink category.

  • If a layer mask or ruler is selected on the Layer palette and switched from hidden to visible, tapping Undo will revert it to the hidden state.

  • You can now toggle between showing or hiding layer masks on locked layers.

  • When you enter a space at the end of a line of text with Wrap text at frame turned on, you can no longer type outside the frame.

  • When you operate the four corner handles of text with Keep aspect ratio turned on, you can now flip the text vertically, and horizontally at the same time.

  • The TateChuYoko drawing position will shift when Wrap text at frame is turned on in the Tool Property palette and Alignment is set to Justify. This can be fixed by selecting the text layer with the Text tool or the Object sub tool, and changing the Compatibility setting to 3.0.0 in the Sub Tool Detail palette.

  • (macOS / iPad / iPhone) When changing the brush size using modifier keys, the brush size and cursor position now match.

  • (iPad / iPhone / Galaxy / Android / Chromebook) Variable fonts are now displayed correctly in the font list.

  • (iPhone / Galaxy / Android) On smartphones, after registering a multi-page project to Clip Studio SHARE, you can still open another project even if you delete the registered project from the work list.

  • (iPad / iPhone) After copying an image to the clipboard in Clip Studio Paint and then copying an image from another app, pasting will paste the image copied from the other app.

  • (iPad / iPhone) The on-screen keyboard no longer opens and closes each time you move the caret in the email address and password input fields on the login screen.

  • (Windows) Typefaces such as Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic are now shown with the font name in the font list.

  • (Windows) When you have a text layer set to Extra Light or Thin font weight, you can set it to 3.0.0 in Sub Tool Details palette > Compatibility Settings so that the font will appear at the same weight on other OS.

  • (Windows) The application will no longer close if you operate the canvas and Color Mixing palette at the same time.

  • (macOS) When inputting text on macOS 14, text is now shown correctly for some fonts even if Anti-aliasing is turned off in the Tool Property palette.

  • (macOS) When opening a dialog for specifying a file or folder and closing it with the Esc, Return, or Enter keys, the key operations will no longer be reflected in the initial dialog.

  • (macOS) After displaying and closing an OS dialog for specifying a file or folder, the operation performed when the original dialog was first clicked is now reflected.

  • (macOS) On macOS 14, the mouse cursor no longer flickers when you start dragging from a palette and then move the pen up on the canvas.


EX / PRO
  • Color Match has been added to the Edit menu > Tonal Correction. You can adjust the colors of your artwork by importing another image or gradient.

  • You can now register gradient map layers and tonal correction layers as template materials.

  • You can now use the Layer menu > Ruler/Frame border > Show ruler and Link ruler to layer on locked layers.

  • When a 3D layer is selected, the perspective ruler grid will appear even after turning on Straighten in the Sub Tool Detail palette.

  • Layers that are locked due to version compatibility issues can no longer be registered as materials from the Edit menu > Register material.

  • The perspective ruler now works correctly when importing an image material containing 3D layers to the canvas.

  • When Save in the background is enabled, even if you run an auto action with registered Save and Close operations on a page of a multi-page project, you can still save the next time the file is opened.

  • The canvas appearance will no longer be distorted even if you move a layer folder with Edge turned on in the Layer Property palette.

  • When editing a gradient layer using the main drawing color or sub drawing color with the Object sub tool, the color no longer temporarily changes to an unintended color.


EX
  • The Layer Comps palette has been added. Layer Comps make it easy to save different variations of your work made with different layers hidden or shown.

  • Layer Comps has been added to the Tool property palette when a file object layer is selected with the Object sub tool. When importing a Clip Studio format file (extension: clip) that includes layer comps, you can switch the display of layer comps.

  • When using Export fanzine printing data, the file name displayed in Printing file name in the binding list display was sometimes different from the exported file name, but files will now be exported with the same file name.

  • When you export PDF format from the File menu > Export multiple pages menu command while a two-page spread is open, the Batch export dialog will now appear.
