What is La Casa del Autor en Zapopan?

The city of Zapopan, which is in the state of Jalisco in Mexico, is home to “La Casa del Autor en Zapopan“ (CAZ), a program that works to support artists.

CAZ is a public outreach program modeled after the public facility, “La Maison Des Auteurs” in Angouleme, France. Artists, writers, and other creators are provided with housing and other facilities so that they can devote themselves to their creative activities for a designated time period. It aims to support new artists for their debut and to become independent.

CAZ regularly hosts workshops and lectures that the public can also attend, nurturing the growth of new artists.

Clip Studio Paint (CSP), the creative app for illustrations, comics, and animation, provides licenses to support the creative activities of these participants.

Also, workshops on how to use Clip Studio Paint are held as a part of CAZ, promoting the use of digital illustration to the residents.

Workshops Offered

Other workshops in relation to CSP are also held at CAZ.

In September 2022, the workshop, “Optimize Comic and Webtoon Creation Using CSP”, was held at Pixelatl Festival, an event for creators in Mexico.

In addition to CAZ participants, many people who were interested in comic and Webtoon creation also attended.

These workshops and seminars assist creators’ artistic activities.

Works by CAZ artists

As part of the screening process for becoming a resident, CAZ requires an explanation of the creative work that will be made during a resident’s stay.

Once they pass the screening and move into CAZ, residents can devote themselves to their projects in the most optimal environment for creation.

The projects consist of a wide variety of content, from comics, graphic novels, short animations, and even video games.

Here are the creative works that CAZ artists made by using CSP.

From the sponsor

Four of our residents, Hugo Silva, Luis Guillermo Castillejos, Jozz Ojeda, and Paulina Márquez were able to complete their comic, graphic novel, or animation project using Clip Studio Paint.

Jozz Ojeda and Paulina Márquez were able to get an official contract with the Hispanic publisher Planeta for the publication and sale of their graphic novels, “Lutino” and “Love has no language (tentative title)”.

We were excited to discover that with the support of Clip Studio Paint, those starting out in digital illustration had the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills they may not have been able to obtain elsewhere.

A collaboration like this is essential and valuable for the professional development of up-and-coming artists and independent artists.

Clip Studio Paint, supporting activities for artists

Clip Studio Paint is committed to helping people worldwide enjoy a wide variety of experiences with creation. We will continue to proactively support the growth and development of artists by participating in projects.

There are plenty of projects that countries and regions take the lead to support artist activities.
There may be a similar project around your area.

We encourage you to try looking and participating in any projects you find.
